Wayne F. Schrum, 90 of Iowa City died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, under the compassionate care of Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with entombment to follow at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Wayne’s memory to Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown (501 Plaza Heights Road, Marshalltown, IA 50158). Wayne was born July 3, 1922, in Cheyenne, WY, the son of William and Ruby (Addison) Schrum. His family moved to Iowa where they resided in Manning and here he graduated from high school. During WWII he served in the United States Army Air Corps. On February 7, 1948, he married Anna M. “Ann” Hughes in Iowa City. The couple made their home in here for many years where Wayne worked for Moore Business Forms for many of those years. In 2004, a couple years following Ann’s death, Wayne moved to California where he found an old friend, Marilyn Becker and for the next 7 years enjoyed her company and her family while living there. He returned to Iowa settling in Marshalltown to be near his son and his family. Here he lived at the Ember’s Senior Living Center enjoying many new friendships.

He had been a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, the American Legion, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

His family includes his two sons, Larry and his wife, Barbara of Marshalltown; and Doug Schrum of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Jacob Schrum (Elena), Elizabeth Schrum, and Ethan Schrum and his two brothers, Burton Schrum (Betty) of Norton, KS; and Lyle Schrum of Urbandale, IA.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ann; a brother, Art; and two siblings as children.
