Kathryn “Anne” Christensen, 91, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, November 21st at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

The family plans to greet friends and celebrate her life in December to share memories. Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Alzheimer’s Research or the Ronald McDonald house. Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.

Kathryn was born April 2, 1921 in Rolfe, Iowa to Raymond and Mary (Goodchild) Green. Growing up in Rolfe, Kathryn received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher’s College and taught in country school in Mallard. She married Donald Christensen August 20, 1941 in Rolfe. After many years together and after raising their children, the couple divorced. Kathryn returned to college and received her nursing certificate and EMT certification. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at The West Bend Care Center for many years and was an EMT with the West Bend Fire Department. She continued to work until after her 80th birthday – working for Katecho in Des Moines – manufacturing pacemakers.

Kathryn w was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and Carnation Rebekah Lodge and was also an avid seamstress.

Survivors include her children, Betty Henely of Iowa City, Donald Christensen Jr. (Eileen) of Clayton, Iowa, Sharon (Hix) Naughton (Mark) of Iowa City and Sonja Cardani (Chris) of Des Moines; a sister Lola Beth Martin of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren, Craig Henely (Kathy), Todd Henely, Jared Hix (Becky), Tricia Carson (Mike), Melanie Christensen (Cindy), Sean Christensen (Lisa), Tyler Hix (Eliza), Logan Cardani and Madison Cardani; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Don and Ed; sisters, Annette Green, Lucille Learned, Fae Torkelson, Ruby Brewster and Viola Green.
