Dorothy “Jimmie” A. Norris, 85, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Monday followed by a reception at the funeral home prior to going to the cemetery for burial. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Jimmie’s memory to Hospice of North Iowa.

Jimmie was born June 10, 1927 in Brantford, Ontario, the daughter of Edward and Doris James. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario in 1950, she married Albert “Ab” Norris, her husband of 59 years until his passing in 2009. Jimmie practiced nursing in Ontario until 1953, when she took a leave to raise her three children. In 1967 she resumed her nursing career where she practiced and taught at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and in Springfield, Illinois. While in Springfield, Jimmie was a member of the Illinois Heart Association (IHA) CPR Task Force, IHA Board of Directors and a joint author of the original IHA CPR teaching manual. After moving back to Iowa in 1985 Jimmie became involved with competitive duplicate bridge and was just shy of her dream of becoming a life master. Jimmie was an avid traveler and reader, but her best times were those spent with her family.

Jimmie will be sadly missed by her children: Barb (Larry) Eide, Bob (Kathy) Norris and Kim (Larry) Reves; Grandchildren: Jay (Katie) Eide, Jamie (John) Boedeker, Jeff Eide and Tyler McGowan; Great-grandchildren: Logan and Kayla Eide and Jack and Kate Boedeker; and lifelong friend Liz Rowley.

In addition to her husband, Ab, she was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved aunt Molly James.
