Laurence Joseph Svatos, 88 died peacefully Friday, September 28, 2012 at Lantern Park Care Center.
Laurence was born August 21, 1924 in Tabor, South Dakota, the son of Joseph and Helen Cekala Svatos. The family moved to Solon where Laurence was raised and educated. On September 4, 1951 he married Ada Klumforth in Iowa City.
Laurence served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946 aboard the USS Belle Grove. Following his military service he returned to Solon to work on the family farm. Laurence worked for the US Corps of Engineers building the Coralville Dam while he worked on the family farm and became employed at Home Town Dairies on April 4, 1953. He retired August 31, 1986.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Ada and their two daughters: Cheryl S. Svatos and Deborah K Svatos-Clark, both of Iowa City; his brother Charles J. Svatos of North Liberty, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Chloe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, Dennis S. Clark, and siblings, Louise Vermace and Raymond Svatos.
