Bruce Dana McDowell lost his struggle with the end stages of C.O.P.D on September 26, 2012. Dana, as he was known, was born in Kossuth County, Iowa July, 2 1932. He was raised in northern Iowa. His mother (Marguerite McBride) was a nurse and his father (George) was a Methodist Episcopal Minister. Dana graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing with a degree in Hospitality Business. He then worked for 4 star restaurants and resorts in New York and Florida. He also worked abroad in Germany and for many years in Cuernavaca, Mexico. He returned to Iowa in 1987 to be closer to family. He then worked for UIHC as a supervisor in food service. He worked there until his retirement 15 years ago. Dana lived an exquisite life and enjoyed many activities including travel, entertaining, reading the Sunday New York Times, and listening to “Car Talk”. Dana had collected many interesting people as his friends over his life time. He is survived by his niece Beth (Paul) Drzewiecki of Port Orchard, Washington, his sister, Jim Paul of Bemidji, Minnesota and her children. Dana’s friends from all around the world are saddened by his passing. Friends of his Round Table should raise a glass in his honor.
