Gwyrneth “Gwen” Coulter, 101 formerly of 2106 Muscatine Avenue and a resident of Crestview Care Center died Saturday, November 29, 2003 in West Branch.

Gwen was born June 25, 1902 in Thornburg, Iowa the daughter of John Thomas and Whilmet H. Dansdill Morton. She married Ward Marion Coulter on June 7, 1921 in Sigourney, Iowa.

Gwen was a long-time Iowa City beautician who had worked at Blackstone’s and other downtown hair salons prior to operating her own salon in her home. She retired in 1963.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was the oldest living member of the church. She was also a member of NAIM Club, the Rag Rollers at St. Mary’s and a former member of the National Hairdressers Association.

Gwen had a special love for roses and violets and enjoyed many springs and summers at their cottage on Lake MacBride.

She is survived by her son Wendell Coulter and his wife Nona of Iowa City, Iowa and by three grandchildren, Tom Coulter and his wife Marilyn and Connie Zahradnek and her husband Larry , both of Iowa City and Michael Coulter and his wife Ruth of Aledo, Illinois; nine great-grandchildren; Dawn, Kelley, Kimberley, Elizabeth, Wayne, Thomas, Aaron, Debby and Bob; five great-great grandchildren, Sawyer, Victoria, Samantha, Alexandra and Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ward, one sister Ruth Reynolds, two brothers, Leo and Howard, one great great granddaughter Cassie Huff
