Robert J. Libby, 91, of 1 Oaknoll Court died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, August 29th, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Barrie Tritle officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at 1pm Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 28th, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, and at the Church after 9:30 Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Iowa City Noon Lions Club.

Bob was born December 25, 1920 in Valley Junction, Iowa, the son of Lyman “Lyle” and Maryanna Bigwood Libby. He was a graduate of Valley High School. Bob served in the US Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. On May 26, 1946 he married Betty Sandy in Carlisle, Iowa.

Bob and Betty moved to Iowa City in 1947. Bob was employed at Iowa State Bank and Trust for over twenty years as a savings counselor, prior to that he was a ticket agent with the Rock Island Railroad.

Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church and a fifty year member and past treasurer of the Iowa City Noon Lions Club. He volunteered with lifeline installation for Mercy Hospital and was former treasurer with Friends of Iowa City Public Library. Bob researched family genealogy and was a member of the American Legion.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Betty and their two sons Richard (Sandra) Libby of Clinton and Stephen (Sharon) Libby of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Dana and Jo Ann; six great grandchildren; a sister in law Evelyn Libby; and nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ellis (Carolyn) and Kenneth Libby; and one grandson Matthew Libby.
