Michael Rizzo died on August 3 in Iowa City. He was born on the lower East Side on June 22, 1922, grew up on a farm in Brooklyn during the Depression, and served as a mechanic in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a dutiful father, hard working builder, and Superintendent of Construction for the City of New York. He was also a navigator, Power Squadron member, horticulturist and orchid lover, and was highly involved in civic affairs. Mike was a tough Brooklyn boy and feared nothing. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn, his sons, Matthew, Warren and Michael, and five grandchildren. The family expresses its deep gratitude to Dr. Dan Berg, to Iowa City Hospice, and especially to Country View Senior Living, North Liberty for their loving care.
