Cedar Rapids GazetteWalker G. Olson, 18 of Oxford died Monday, July 9, 2012, from injuries received while working near Frytown, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at St. Mary’s Auditorium in Oxford, Iowa. Burial with Fire Fighter’s Honors will take place at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary’s Auditorium in Oxford. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Walker’s memory. Walker Grant Olson was born August 26, 1993, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City the son of Clint and Lisa (Drake) Olson. He had attended Clear Creek Amana Schools, graduating with the Class of 2011. He had just finished his first year at Kirkwood Community College in the Fire Sciences Program, working toward his goal of becoming a full-time fireman. He started as a volunteer on the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, and presently was also on the Coralville Volunteer Fire Department, and truly in his element! Walker was not one to sit still, he and his brother, Tyler had a mowing and snow removal service in Oxford for years, he enjoyed tearing down the mowers and putting them back together. He enjoyed trapshooting, hunting, woodworking, riding motorcycles, and was involved with flying lessons at Green Castle Airport to get his pilot’s license.
His family includes his parents, Clint and Lisa Olson; brother, Tyler Olson; grandparents, Roy and Marie Olson, and Lon and Barbara Drake all of Oxford; uncles and aunts, Reed and Marlene Drake of Oxford; Eric and Rainy Drake of Jacksonville, FL; Todd and Jessie Drake of Tiffin; Alan and Tracy Olson of Philadelphia, PA; Mark and Carol Olson of Phoenix City, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
