Cedar Rapids GazetteHelen J. Mahan, 87, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the Iowa City Health and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am until services at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice. Helen J. Fountain was born September 23, 1924, in Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Leo and Edna (Seering) Fountain. She graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1942 and Mercy Nursing College in 1946. On September 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Frank I. Mahan Jr. here in Iowa City. For many years she was in nursing, having worked in Middleton, OH; Joliet, IL; and St. Joseph, MO. She returned to Iowa City later in her life.
Her family includes a sister and her husband, Fern and John Schintler of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Suzanne Fountain of Iowa City; a brother-in-law, Robert Lovetinsky of Iowa City; and 14 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank; son, John; sisters, LaVerne Hansen and Juanita Lovetinsky; brother, Paul Fountain; and 2 nephews.
