Madelene W. Sydebotham, 92, formerly of 200 Marietta Avenue in Iowa City, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Reverend Brian Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.Madelene was born November 20, 1919 in North Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of George and Edith (Wray) Ranshaw. Upon graduating from University High School, she received a degree from Browns Business College.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City and The Whip-poor-will Women’s Club in North Liberty. Madelene enjoyed traveling - but also delighted in visiting with others about their travels. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan.
She married Fred Sydebotham April 18, 1948 in Iowa City. Madelene worked for Pipers Candy Store and Fuik’s Jewelry Store. She later worked at the University of Iowa Dental College as an x-ray technician for 30 years – retiring in 1981.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Ranshaw (Betty) of Marengo; sisters,
Doris Duttlinger of Kalona and Evelyn Rittger of Aurora, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.Madelene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, a brother George and a sister Marcella.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff, past and present, of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center for the care and patience given to Madelene during the past nine years. Appreciation is also expressed to the staff of Care Initiatives Hospice for making Madelene’s last months more enjoyable.
