Ruby June Cox, 87, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 21, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Ruby's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.

Ruby was born April 8, 1925, in Iowa City, where she was raised, and attended schools. She married Louis Alvin Cox Sr. on May 15, 1943, here in Iowa City. For several years she worked in the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa, cared for children in her home, but most of all, and most dear to her was caring for family and some very dear friends over the years. She loved the title of Mom and Grandma, and even outside of her family she was that too many. Ruby enjoyed the outdoors, watching birds, caring for her dogs, going out to eat and just enjoying the people around her up close and from a far. She was life member of VFW Auxiliary, and a longtime volunteer at the Veterans Hospital.

Her family includes her two daughters, Linda J. Cox Perry and her husband, Ronald Perry; and Patricia J. Cox Krukoski all of Iowa City; grandchildren, Holly Bourget (Tige), Robert Perry (Afton), and Daniel Krukoski; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Caroline, Noah, and Oliver; step-great-grandchildren, Lena, Dana, and Ben.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and son, Louis A. Cox Jr. "Butch"

Ruby's family like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the care of our Mom and Grandmother from Doctors Bozek, Broderick and Staffey; all the staff on 7JCE at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and everyone at Briarwood Healthcare Center, thank you!
