Carl K. Colony, 81, of Iowa City, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be made in Carl’s memory to Iowa City Hospice, Grace United Methodist Church or an organization of your choice. Carl Kyte Colony was born June 27, 1930, near Tiffin, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Marie (Brant) Colony. He graduated from Iowa City City High school with the Class of 1948. On April 10, 1951, Carl was united in marriage to Mildred Jane Brown in Shueyville. As a lifetime resident of this area Carl worked as a farmer, for Owens Brush, operated a DX station in Coralville, drove for Wilson Trucking, sold insurance, and retired as a realtor in Iowa City. As they say, he never met a stranger, he enjoyed the public, the outdoors as a sportsman, mushrooming, but most of all, his family was always first in his book. Having just celebrated 61 years of marriage to Jane, the father of four daughters, grandfather to eight, great-grandfather to 8 more, he so loved his family!

They include his wife, Jane; daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Thomas Bunnell of Lisbon; Beverly and Stephen Seat of Overland Park, KS; Barbara and Jim Tandy of Oxford, and Cyndi and Stephen Mick of Waverly, IA; 8 grandchildren, Tina Webster (A.C. Reiger), Tom (Kim) Tandy, Ashley Seat, Angie Seat, John (Jami) Tandy, Julia (Jason) Bulechek, Valerie (Daniel) Aguilera, and Natalie Mick; 8 great-grandchildren, Drew Schulte, Jackson Rios, Trevor Tandy, Delaney Bulechek, Alexa Aguilera, Alayna Aguilera, Paxon Aguilera, Audrey Bulechek; and his cousin, Jack Colony of Coralville. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Shirley Colony.
