Robert B. “Bob” Goodwin, 82, of Coralville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, surrounded by his family at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012, from 2-4 p.m., at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private family graveside services with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bob’s memory to Hospice Compassus or The Salvation Army.

Robert Bernard Goodwin was born December 22, 1929, in Quincy, IL the son of Arthur and Marie (Brinkman) Goodwin. During the Korean Conflict, Bob served his country serving in the United States Army. On February 16, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Lenora Jean Kurtz in Quincy. The couple came to the Iowa City area nearly 43 years ago where they have raised their family and where Bob was best known for working at Smitty’s Shoe Repair on Prentiss Street. Bob enjoyed anything to do with racing, NASCAR, Hawkeye Downs, West Liberty Race Track and others, during racing season seldom did he miss a weekend at the track! He also enjoyed camping with his family, and playing bingo, especially when he won.

Bob’s family includes his wife Lenora; their children, Robert (Barbara) Goodwin, Jeff (Cindy) Goodwin, Lisa Peak, Kim Schlabach (Jack Anderson), Rodney Goodwin, and Carol Goodwin; 7 grandchildren, Kristina Lehigh, Elizabeth Peak, Brandon Peak, Matthew Peak, Megan Goodwin, Robert Goodwin, and Adam Goodwin; 6 great-grandchildren; Shannon Lehigh, Gordon Lehigh, David Lehigh, Austin Petit, Joshua Petit, and Raeann Goodwin; brothers, Bud (Pat) Goodwin and Bill Goodwin; sisters, Norma Moore, Annette Nall and Edith Goodwin Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathy and Pat; and a brother, Don.
