Jack Edward Wiele, beloved son of Paul Samuel Wiele and Sue Ellen (White) Wiele, went to meet his Lord and Savior on the 14th of February 2012, after a brief but very serious illness. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 1- 4 pm on Sunday, February 19 at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City.

Jack was born on the 12th of October, 1955 in Muscatine, IA. He moved with his family to Davenport, IA in 1956. Jack attended Jefferson Elementary School, Williams Junior High School, and graduated from West High School in 1974. Because of his love of his Lord, arts, and music, he participated in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Choir, the AGAPE Singers, and went on several choir tours throughout the Midwest and South.

Following graduation from high school, and acknowledging that he was not ready for more academia right away, he worked at and managed various movie theaters around the Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois area. Eventually, he sought employment at the University of Iowa, which proved to be a more stable work environment than the ever-changing theater environment. This, however, did not discourage or diminish his creative and artistic aptitudes and outlets. He often assisted with the creation of graphic designs and brochure layouts for the various departments that he worked with as well as his mother’s various organizations.

While living in Iowa City, he met and eventually married Mary Jo Kern on May 16th, 1998. They purchased a home together and added two “children” to the family. Casey Lynn, the first of their puppies, claimed the house to be hers and simply allowed Jack and Mary to live there. Willey G. was adopted next and just simply claimed Jack to be his possession. Jack faithfully walked, spoiled, and bragged about his “kids”. He often used their pictures when creating greeting cards for occasions and always seemed to catch them in their funniest and cutest poses.

Jack will be missed the MOST by his mother, Sue Wiele, as she knew him long before any of the rest of us! He is also leaving a HUGE void in the life of his wife, Mary Jo, his brother John Wiele (Mary Terkowski), of Nashua, NH; his sister Barbara Berneking (Gary Berneking) of Davenport, IA; his nieces & nephews Laura (Tim) Painter, Davenport, IA; Ian Berneking, currently serving the Army in Afghanistan; Paul Wiele, Rochester, NY; and Juliana Wiele, Boston, MA along with too many other friends and co-workers to mention. His compassion and sincerity should serve as an example to all of us….He knew how to love and appreciate people and demonstrated it daily.
