Alvin “Al” Streb, 79, died at home Friday, January 13th surrounded by his family.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited following the visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church or to Iowa City Hospice. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Al was born June 14, 1932 in Iowa City the son of John and Agnes Lynch Streb. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School and attended the University of Iowa. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Al married Mary Joan Holaday on February 9, 1957 in Iowa City.

Al was a longtime Iowa City area real estate developer and entrepreneur. Al developed numerous properties and residential subdivisions including Scott Six Industrial Park, Coral Industrial Park and Golfview Mobile Home Park which he and his brother Tom developed.

Al was member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and was a past president of the Iowa City Area Homebuilders Assn. Al collected antique Lincoln automobiles. Most important in his life were his family.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all those who cared for Al in the oncology and radiation departments at UIHC, especially Dr. Gerald Clamon and Iowa City Hospice, especially Angelika Kieffer.

Al is survived by his wife Mary Jo and their eight children, Alene Nevin of Roseville, CA, David (Mindi) Streb of Iowa City, Karen (Darrel) Cordy of Phoenix, Kathryn Streb of North Liberty, Michael (Lori) Streb of Iowa City, Janice (Dan) Chelf of Coralville, Steven Streb of Riverside and Michelle (Terry) Alberts of North Liberty; His brother, Thomas (Linda) Streb of North Liberty and his sister, Marge VeDepo of Iowa City; 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, his son Patrick and his sister LaBelle Benninghoff.
