With great sadness and loving hearts, the family of Gretchen L. Campbell will lay her to rest at 10am Friday, December 30th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father John Spiegel will officiate. Burial will at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service and at the Church after 9am Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gretchen Campbell Memorial Fund or Iowa City Hospice.

Gretchen was born October 15, 1922 in Iowa City, the daughter of Thomas “Mike” and Mary Brown. She was a 1942 graduate of City High School and attended Iowa City Business College. Gretchen married Paul Campbell on January 15, 1949 at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City.

Gretchen was employed for many years as a computer operator at the University of Iowa Weeg Computer Center.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society and liked to read, bake, needlepoint and do puzzles. Most important to Gretchen was her family.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Iowa City Hospice, Crestview Care Center and Towncrest Internal Medicine for the wonderful care they provided.
Gretchen is survived by her loving children Dennis (Peggy) Campbell of San Diego, Paula (Randall) Price of Cedar Rapids, Candace (Don) McDonald and Patsy (Gary) Anciaux, both of Iowa City; 7 grandchildren, Randy and Dara Price, Vanessa McDonald, Hilarie Truitt, McKenzie McDonald, Chad and Clair Anciaux; 3 great grandchildren, Landon, Layla and Alivia; sisters-in-law, Arlene Brenneman and Kay Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 2000 and four siblings, Louis Brown, Mary Kempf, Virginia Turecek and Thomas E. Brown.
