Funeral services for Theodore Niels Kjaer, age 61, of Iowa City, Iowa, were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at the George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City with the Rev. Eric K. Lesher officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa. There was no visitation.

Theodore Niels Kjaer was born December 4, 1928 in Dwight, Illinois to Rev. Svend and Ethel (Christensen) Kjaer. He graduated from high school in Salinas, California in 1946 and then attended St. Mary's College near San Francisco, California. He also attended Salinas Junior College and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he obtained his Bachelor and Master's Degrees in History. He was married to Ruth Jorgensen on August 19, 1949 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple made their home in Elgin, Iowa where he was a teacher and coach. They moved to Mason City, Iowa where he taught at the Mason City High School before becoming an instructor at North Iowa Area Community College. In 1969 they moved to Iowa City where he continued to teach. Following his retirement in 1975 from West High School, they continued to make their home in Iowa City, Iowa.

Theodore is survived by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Svend Kjaer of Iowa City, Iowa, his wife, Ruth of Iowa City, Iowa; 4 daughters, Kathryn Kjaer of Fort Collins, Colorado, Joan Kirkman, Diane Johnson, and Jacqueline Kjaer, all of Iowa City, Iowa; 2 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Esther Mosher of Springfield, Illinois, Ruth Colt of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Esther Barker of Iowa City, Iowa.
