Lucy Wood Fountain Obituary

Mrs Lucy Wood Fountain was born in Shropshire, England, March 29, 1849; died September 15, 1910, aged 61 years, 5 months and 16 days. She came with her parents to this country when she was only six months old.

March 5, 1869, she was united in marriage to Emsley Fountain. To this union were born 10 children, Belle Leverson (Sic), Edith Schaapveld and Guy Fountain of Minnesota; Albert Fountain of Garwood, Idaho, Ernest Fountain of Carpenter, S. Dak,; Olive Poston, Jessie Horrell, Eveleen Miller and Elsie Jehle of Lone Tree. One little daughter died in infancy.

She united with the M. E. Church in early womanhood and for over 40 years she continued a true, faithful and consistent member of the same.

She leaves behind on earth to mourn her death a husband, 9 children, 32 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Mary Cooper of Grenola, Kansas; one half-brother, William Wood, whose whereabouts are unknown; a host of nieces, nephews and friends and one cousin, Mrs Lizzie Cook of Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

Mrs Fountain passed through many hardships, worked hard and endured intense sufferings. Yet she never murmured nor complained. Her faith in her blessed savior was intelligent and strong. She died as she lived, quietly and peacefully. Her sanctified spirit was well prepared to be glorified in heaven with him with whom she had shared in sufferings in this world. Her memory will be blessed and the influence of her life will continue to do good for years to come.

Truly “Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord for they shall rest from their labours and their works do follow them.”

The members of the M. B. A. Lodge of which she was a member, may feel justly proud of their noble work in assisting the family to care for such a noble woman in her last days of suffering on earth. Their labor of love will not be forgotten.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church, Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev Phillips, assisted by Revs Hawk and Oathout. Internment in the Lone Tree Cemetery.

Card of Thanks

Emsley Fountain and children desire to thank all those who so kindly assisted them during the illness of their beloved wife and mother. They wish to especially thank the M. B. A.'s for their assistance and words of cheer, assuring them, as well as all others, that their efforts were very much appreciated.

Clipping from the collection of Elma Fountain Gerot. Appears to be from the Lone Tree Reporter, date of publication missing.
