IOWA CITY

Elliko Shimosato-Shutt, 41, of Iowa City, died Saturday evening, August 9, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at the Hope United Methodist Church, 2929 E. Court Street, Iowa City, with the Reverend Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Memorials may be made to the Michael A. Evans Scholarship c/o the University of Iowa Foundation. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.

Elliko Shimosato-Shutt was born July 9, 1962 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dr. Shiro and Monaco (Yamamoto) Shimosato. She grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and then moved with her family to Iowa City, where she graduated from City High School in 1980. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Master of Arts and later a Master of Fine Arts, all from the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to Michael A. Evans; following his death, she later married Damon Shutt on August 24, 1995. She taught at Montessori in Iowa City and was currently employed as an elementary art teacher at the Regina Education Center, a position she has held since 1995. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, had been involved in puppet theatres, enjoyed the outdoors, jogging, camping, hiking, had been active in Outward Bound programs, and took interest in all forms of art.

Elliko is survived by her husband, Damon of Iowa City; two daughters, Alitza and Isabelle, both at home; her father, Dr. Shiro Shimosato of Iowa City; and two sisters, Keiko Shimosato Carreiro of San Francisco, California and Yukiko Hill of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her mother in April of this year and her first husband, Michael.
