Marilyn H. Marner, 83, of Iowa City died peacefully Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Mercy Hospice following a long illness.
Memorial Services to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at 11am Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Barrie Tritle and Rev. John Raab. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7pm Monday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospital Foundation for Mercy Hospice.
Marilyn was born October 5, 1927 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Rev. Norman and Bernice Rocke Hobbs. She was a 1945 graduate of City High School and attended Hesston College, Kansas. Marilyn married Donald Marner on November 5, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Marilyn was a district manager and area representative for Avon. Most important in her life was her family and her home, which was always immaculate. She loved to travel, especially to Europe, and enjoyed the time spent with her American Eskimo dogs.
Marilyn was a member of First United Methodist Church and a longtime member and past president of Sweet Adelines.
The family extends their appreciation to care givers at Mercy Hospice and Iowa City Hospice and special appreciation for Marilyn's personal home care givers Joyce Marner, Jean Smith, Ellen Schellin, and Mary Van Egdon.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Donald and their two children, Steve (Joyce) Marner of Solon and Gail Cook of Bellevue, WA; three grandchildren, Callie, Jack and Helen; great grandson Cole; nieces and nephews, Dennis (Jackie) Gordon, Dave Gordon, Anita (Steve) Puffer, Susie (Dan) Engelbrecht, Brett Gordon and Jim Gordon.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lorraine, niece and nephew Joan and Todd Gordon.
