Mary J. Collins, 80, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, May 2, 2011.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The Very Reverend Rudolph Juarez will officiate. The family will greet friends from 9:00am until 10:00 at the church. Burial of cremains will be private at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Crisis Center.

Mary was born August 6, 1930 in Charlotte, Iowa, the daughter of John and Charlotte (Burke) Collins.

Mary graduated from Osage High School in 1948 and received her nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Davenport. She worked in Iowa City for both Mercy Hospital and then Dr. Christian Shrock, and later for the Sister Kinney Foundation in Minneapolis.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Survivors include her brothers, William Collins of South Bend, Indiana, Jean Reed of Iowa City,

Dr. Richard Collins of Eldridge, Iowa and Dr. Paul Collins of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dr. John Collins and a sister, Sheila Collins.
