Edythe E. Frantz, 68, of 1606 Highland Avenue in Iowa City, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics from complications of diabetes.

Services will begin Saturday at 1:00 pm at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with Pastor Brent Hartwig officiating. Visitation at the church will be from 10:00 am Saturday until service time. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Edythe Frantz Memorial Fund.

Edythe was born July 29, 1942 in rural Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Wilma (Daub) Stanley. Growing up in rural Henry County, Edythe graduated from Harmony High School in 1960. She then graduated from Burlington Beauty Academy and for many years, worked at the downtown Younkers, The Gold Room (of which she co-owned), Blackstones, Crimpers Corner and for her long time friend Chris Wendler at Chris’ Hair Care. Most recently Edythe worked as a stylist at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.

She married Larry Frantz September 28, 1968 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and has been a member since. Edythe was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Little Hawk Club, the Cedar Rapids Miniature Club, Metro Mini Makers of the Quad Cities and the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts.

Survivors include her husband Larry; daughters, Tammy (Paul) Kampschroeder and Amy (Chris) Mueller, all of Overland Park, Kansas; son Tim (Tami) Frantz of West Branch;
grandchildren, K.J. Smith (fiancé Afton Jensen), Steph Smith, Tate Frantz, Logan, Delcie and Sophie Mueller, Max and Lewis Kampschroeder; a great grandson, Trey Smith-Coleman;
sisters, Marlene (Joe) Wilson of Moberly, Missouri, Roberta “Bert” Shimon of Iowa City
brother, Dwight (Karen) Stanley of Hillsboro and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother in law, Paul and Alma (Druecker) Frantz, brother in law, John A. “Jack” Frantz, sister in law, Rayleen Frantz and a great niece, Lindsay Shriver.
