Dan “Danny” Montgomery, 50, of Iowa City, died Sunday, July 20, 2003 following a short illness.

Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in
Iowa City. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Dan Montgomery Memorial Fund. Memorials may also be mailed directly to the funeral home and will then be passed on to the family.

Dan was born October 4, 1952, in Iowa City, the son of James & Dorothy (Spivey) Montgomery. He graduated from West High School in Iowa City in 1970. In 1969, Dan married Ann Goldsberry in Iowa City. The couple later divorced. On September 17, 1976 Dan married Gail Wetzstein in Des Moines. Dan and Gail later divorced. He worked for many years as a drywall finisher and painter at the University of Iowa Physical Plant and later worked as a self-employed contractor. Dan enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was a member of AFSCME Local 12 in Iowa City.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Montgomery Miller & her husband Paul of Morse, Iowa; two daughters, Meggan Montgomery of Solon and Lindsay Montgomery of Iowa City; one son, Jeffrey Montgomery of Las Vegas; seven brothers and sisters, Mike “Buddah” Montgomery & his wife Beth of Iowa City, Peggy Macal & her husband Ron of Marion, Iowa; John Montgomery & Donna of Wilmington, North Carolina; Kathryn Neuzil & her husband Marvin of Iowa City, Patti Mullnix & her husband Ken of Williamsburg, Mary Young & her husband Mike of Iowa City and Stacy Scesney & her husband Bill of Fishkill, New York; three grandchildren, Jake Montgomery, and Abagail and Rachel Ann Whitehouse; his life partner, Valerie Stockstell of Iowa City; his former wife, Gail Conner of Solon; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Dan was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
