Mildred Saeugling, 92, of Iowa City, (formerly of St. Louis Park, MN), died from complications of breast cancer, peacefully and with family, at home on April 9, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 54 years, her treasured sister Wilma Mueller and Wilma’s husband Louis.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Fagin and her husband Bobbie Lester, her son Tom and his wife Jenny Britton, her son Lee and his wife Janet, her sister Esther McFarland, her brother, Don Becker and his wife Kay, her niece Pam Crawford, her grandchildren Seth Saeugling, Joe Britton and Jason Fagin, her great-grandchildren Jason Fagin, Jr., A’mara Fagin and Nevaeh Guderian, her extended family and many friends.

Mildred Sophia (Schroeder) Saeugling was born February 19, 1919 in Osterdock, Iowa, the daughter of farmers Henry and Eda (Tuecke) Schroeder. Mil was a school teacher in one room schoolhouses near Guttenberg, IA. In 1946, she married Dean B. Saeugling. They moved to St. Louis Park, MN, where she raised three children and he ran the family

drug store. She was a 60 year member of Wooddale Lutheran Church. In 2004, she moved with her sister Wilma to Iowa City to be near her grandchildren. Mil’s family, friends and faith were at the center of her life. She most cherished events where, as she would say, “we can all be together.” She was warm, engaging and relished spending time with those she loved.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 16th at Wooddale Lutheran Church, 4003 Wooddale Ave, St. Louis Park, MN. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service. A private internment ceremony will be held on the preceding Friday at Fort Snelling, MN. Mildred’s family will host a visitation on Wednesday, April 20th, from 6-8 p.m at Zion Lutheran, 310 Johnson St, in Iowa City. Memorial prayers will

be said at 6:30 p.m. Throughout her life, Mildred’s students kept in contact with her. In lieu of flowers and to honor her impact as a teacher, memorials can be made to
