Sandra "Sandy" Sue Barrett, 67, of Iowa City died peacefully Friday, April 8, 2011 at Mercy Hospice.

Memorial Services to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held at 1pm, Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospital Foundation for Mercy Hospice Center.

Sandy was born June 18, 1943 in Denver, CO. She was a graduate of Kirkwood College where she received her associate degree in nursing. Sandy was a staff nurse at Mercy Hospital on 4 Center for 19 years. She loved Scrabble, playing cards, trips to the casino and scenic tours. Her generosity and kindness will be missed. Most important to her was family and her grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her three children, Gene (Debi) Barrett of Phoenix, Barbara (Steve) Eldridge of Coralville and Janet Nierling of Iowa City; ten grandchildren, Bo Ryan, Christopher, Amber, Brandon, Cassandra, Aaron, Brendan, Alexandra, Aaron and Paige; three great grandchildren; her siblings, Rosemary (James) Yardley of Iowa City, Floyd (Sheryl) Six of Guthrie Center and Don and John Six, both of Van Couver, WA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Richard and siblings David Six and Carol Wright.
