Lucille Sundbye died peacefully at the Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City, IA on April 4, 2011, at the age of 101.
Lucille was born in Olathe, Kansas on May 1, 1909, the third of five children born to Will and Ariel Moll. After graduating from Olathe High School, she taught in a one-room school house for several years. Lucille married Clifford Sundbye on August 21, 1928 and raised three children in Olathe. She was active in the Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe for many years. During WWII, Lucille worked at the Olathe Naval Air Station while her husband was in the service.
Lucille lived in Olathe until October, 2003, at which time she moved to the Oaknoll Retirement Residence to be near her daughter. She was always a very positive, nurturing and loving presence in the lives of her family and those who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jean and Bill Hines, her former daughter-in-law Nita Sewell, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two sons Ronald and Richard.
A memorial service will be held in Olathe, KS at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church of Olathe, KS or to Oaknoll Retirement Residence of Iowa City, IA.
