Rusty N. “Russ” Banker, 60, of 320 E. Washington Street in Iowa City, died unexpectedly at his home.

Russ chose to be cremated. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City.
The family will greet friends after 12:30 at the church. The Reverend Mel Schlachter will officiate. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Free Medical Clinic, Iowa City Public Library, Iowa City Hospice or Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.

Russ was born January 4, 1951 in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Robert and Beryle (Crone) Banker.
Growing up in Britt, Russ graduated from Britt High School. He moved to Iowa City in 1969 and attended the University of Iowa. Russ operated Rusty Banker Catering in Iowa City. He also worked in foodservice for University of Iowa sororities and the University of Iowa foodservice.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, served on the board of directors for the Free Medical Clinic and was a volunteer for Iowa City Hospice.

Survivors include his mother Beryle of Britt; a sister, Rebecca Horton of Port Angeles, Washington,
brothers, Bob (Mary) of Cedar Rapids, Louis (Julie) of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Sue) of Ankeny, Iowa, David (Nafija) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; an aunt, Alberta Banker of Britt; nieces and nephews, Jenny Brougher, Katie Veldhouse, Lindsay Banker, Christopher Banker Matthew Banker, Abigail Banker, Ryan Banker, Morgan Banker and Alex Banker; great nieces and nephews, Oliver Brougher and Olivia Brougher.

He was preceded in death by his father, a nephew Michael Louis Veldhouse and a brother in law, Mike Horton.
