Charlotte Cordellia Goettle, formerly of Iowa City died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Eureka Springs Hospital in Eureka Springs, Arkansas after a short illness.
Charlotte was born April 17, 1911 near Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of Chester and Inez (Hellyer) Ridenour. She was raised in Cedar County and was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1929. She taught school in a one-room school for two years. She then got her LPN Nurses Degree from University of Iowa and worked at University Hospital for many years.
On May 24, 1931 she married William Goettle in Iowa City. They adopted Bernadine Ann Sprague in June, 1951.
Charlotte was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and a member of AARP, the National Association of Federal Retirees and volunteered at the Iowa City Senior Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Bernadine (Kenneth) Haydon of Eureka Springs, AR; one brother Paul R. Ridenour of Tacoma, Washington; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Fairchild of San Diego, California; Chad Fairchild (Jennifer) of Moline, Illinois; Beau Fairchild of Iowa City, Iowa; one granddaughter Julia Fairchild of Moline, Illinois and lots of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband William Goettle, two sisters (Grace Maxson and Lucille Benson), one brother Donald Ridenour; and one niece Beverly Techau.
A Celebration of Charlotte’s life will be April 17 (her 100th birthday date) at Green Acre Lodge on Holiday Island at 2 p.m. Graveside Services will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are to go to: St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, Iowa or Grace Lutheran Church of Holiday Island, Arkansas.
