Robert Cochran, age 65 of rural Oxford, died at his home, Sunday, July 13, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with the Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8pm today at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Bob’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Bob’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com
Robert was born February 6, 1938, in Oxford, the son of Murrel B. and Adelaide A. (Svoboda) Cochran. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1956. On October 8, 1960, he married Judy Grace at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. He has farmed near Oxford all his life, and since 1969, he owned and operated the Oxford Sale Barn. He also owned and operated Felton Seed Company of Iowa City and Oxford.
He was a member of the Johnson County Cattleman Association, Johnson County Farm Bureau, Livestock Marketing Association, along with his father, Murrel they founded the Iowa Pony Pulling Association, and was a member of the Wisconsin Pony Pulling Association.
Bob loved people, he met many people through the sale barn, and he made sure that he got to know each and everyone, not only as a customer, but also as a new friend.
His family includes his wife, Judy; mother, Adelaide Cochran of Oxford; daughters, Chris Cochran of Ames, Sandy and her husband, P.J. Doyle of Coralville; sons and their wives, Chuck and Tammy Cochran of Oxford, and Tom and Dawn Cochran of Oxford; grandchildren, Josh Cochran, Kati Cochran, Kelly Cochran, Jacob Cochran, Jessie Doyle, and Joseph Doyle; mother-in-law, Anna Hunter of Iowa City.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Murrel in 1999, and sister, Carol Jean Cochran in 1963.
