Reverend Alvin P. Jingst, 90, formerly of Iowa City, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, March 3, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2011, at the Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Alvin's name. Alvin Paul Jingst was born August 15, 1920 in Warsaw, Illinois; the son of Cecil and Clara (Limkemann) Jingst. He graduated from high school in Warsaw and went on to attend Moody Bible Institute and Northern Baptist Seminary both in Chicago. In May of 1945 Alvin married Ruth Ingram. He served the Lord preaching in Michigan, Kansas and Illinois before moving to Iowa City in 1966. Here he continued to preach and work for the University of Iowa General Stores for over 16 years. After retirement from the University he continued preaching at local care centers and hospitals. Alvin was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City. He and his wife have resided in Regency Care Center, Norwalk, Iowa, for the last several years.

Alvin's family includes his wife, Ruth; son Charles "Chuck" (Sharon) Jingst of Des Moines; grandchildren, Allen (Amy) Jingst, Eric (Michelle) Jingst, Justin and Casey Patterson; sister, Pauline Kimble of Jerseyville, IL; sister-in-law, Esther Jingst of Sebring, FL and Sharon Patterson, Peter's longtime friend. Alvin was preceded in death by their son, Peter; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
