Guy E. McFarland IV, 29, a longtime resident of Iowa City, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his home in Denver, Colorado.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 am Saturday, February 26, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Thom Hennen officiating. The family will greet friends Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to The Regina Foundation to benefit the Regina Boosters Sports Bleacher Improvement Project or the Colorado Rockies Charities Fund to benefit Colorado youth programs.

Guy was born August 25, 1981 in Iowa City, the son of Guy E. and Bonnie (Barnes) McFarland III. Growing up in Iowa City, Guy attended Regina Catholic Education Center and graduated in 1999. At Regina, he was active in football and track. Guy attended the University of Iowa before working in the sleep medicine industry as a certified sleep medicine technologist. He moved to Denver in 2004 where he recently returned to college.

Guy lived his life to the absolute fullest. He had many friends and was a good friend in exchange. He traveled the country and the world to attend Black Crowes concerts, most recently traveling to San Francisco to attend the final three U.S. concerts before the group disbanded. Guy was the proud owner of Denver Broncos season tickets and attended almost every Colorado Rockies home game.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Guy is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Doris Barnes of Coralville, brother Ryan (Melissa) Eckhoff and their children, Mia, Neal, Rachel and Roan, all of Iowa City; sister Katie (Matt White) and their children, Evan and Maggie, all of Madison, Wisconsin; uncles, Al (Lori)Barnes of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, John (Marianne) Barnes of Swisher, Jim (Jan) Barnes of Coralville, and Kevin (Lisa) Barnes of Iowa City; aunt, Debra (Bob)Rogers of Iowa City and many cousins.
