Virginia L. “Ginni” Hebert, 80, formerly of 419 Terrace Road in Iowa City, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Windmill Manor in Coralville.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:00 am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Reverend Michael Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Brick Chapel Cemetery east of Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Elder Services Inc., RSVP.

Ginni was born December 5, 1930 in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Cyril and Esther (Schmidt) Bireline. Graduating from Iowa City High School in 1948, Ginni attended the University of Iowa and the St. Francis School of Nursing. A lifelong Iowa City resident, she worked as a secretary at the University of Iowa. She married Donald Hebert January 26, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Ginni was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was a dedicated volunteer for RSVP, The Rock ‘N Read Program and at the Johnson County Courthouse as a visitors assistant. She had served on the boards of the Iowa City High School Alumni, RSVP and Iowa City Parks & Recreation Department.

Survivors include her children, Chuck Hebert (Melissa) of Solon, Laura Hebert of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and William “Bill” Hebert (Lori) of Oakland, California; four grandchildren, Morgan, Rachel, Nicole and Jordan and two sisters, Marilyn Davisson and Barbara Bireline.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don in July 2001, a sister Mary “Babe” Hanrahan and a brother, Robert Bireline.
