Helen Sedlacek Griffin, age 95, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2003, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudolph Berndt officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm today at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a National Catholic Society of Foresters Rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Helen’s memory. Helen Sedlacek Griffin was born October 2, 1907 on the family century farm where she has resided all of her life, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Dvorsky) Sedlacek. She attended the county one room schoolhouse in Big Grove Township, of Johnson County, Iowa. She married Linus J. Griffin April 19, 1933. Helen has been a General Agent of National Catholic Society of Foresters since 1963 until the present; where she was a member since 1938.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, Altar and Rosary Society in Solon, served as President for the Iowa Fraternal Congress in 1974 for two years, past president of the Davenport Association of Iowa D.C.C.W., and as president for St. Mary Magdalene Court 635 in Solon for over fifty-seven years.

Her family includes her husband, Linus of over seventy years; daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Robert Frees of Iowa City; grandchildren, Debra and her husband, Donald Kabela of Solon, and David and his wife, Naomi Steinbrech of Solon; three great-great grandchildren, David Brown, Monica Steinbrech and Molly Jo Steinbrech.

Her parents and an infant daughter preceded her in death.
