Samir E. Bishara, 74, of Iowa City died Friday, October 08, 2010 at UIHC.
Samir was born October 31, 1935 in Cairo, Egypt, the son of Edward and Georgette Bishara. He received his BDS degree from Alexandria University and received his DDS and MS in Orthodontics from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Samir was Professor of Orthodontics in the College of Dentistry since 1976 and has earned an international reputation for his excellence in his specialty.
Some of his most proud accomplishments include the Guggenheim Fellowship, serving as President of the College of Diplomats American Board of Orthodontics and most recently he received the Michael J Brody Award for Faculty Excellence in Service to the University and State of Iowa. Samir was better known to his colleagues and students as “Dr. B”.
Samir was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his mother Georgette Bishara of Charlottesville, VA; wife Anne; three daughters, Dina Bishara (William Hacker) of Conway, AR, Dorine (Colton) Edmiston of Vancouver,WA and Cherine Bishara (Ian Shanklin) of Omaha, NE; step-daughter, Christine (Todd) Timney of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Eilah and Josephine; his sister, Vivian (Arthur) McCormack of Charlottesville, VA; nephew, Essam Abadir of Lancaster, PA; the Fahmy and Chehete Families in Egypt and the Bishara cousins in Indianapolis and Houston.
Samir was preceded in death by his father.
