Charles Imig, 76

Charles J. "Chuck" Imig, of 145 Prairie Ridge Court, and Holiday Lake in Brooklyn, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his daughter's home after a sudden illness.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. James Vrba officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville with military rites by VFW Post No. 3949, assisted by other local military organizations.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville; where there will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.

Dr. Imig was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Waterloo, to Louis and Margaret (Miller) Imig. He married Donna Collins on Sept. 16, 1944 in Cedar Rapids. She died Sept. 26, 1998. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Cedar Rapids and received his Bachelor of Arts Coe College in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He received his degree in physical therapy from the University of Iowa and in 1953 received his doctorate in physiology form the University of Iowa. That year, her received the Gold Medal Award from the International Physiological Society in plethysmography. He was an associate professor in physiology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW Post No. 3949 and the American Physiological Society. He achieved Eagle Scout in his youth and spent many years in Scouting.

Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Mulherin and her husband, Roger, of Coral Springs, Fla., Lou Ann Grieme and her husband, Jim, of Longmont, Colo., Kathy Imig of North Liberty; three sons, Jack Imig and his wife, Betsy, of Boulder, Colo., Douglas Imig and his wife, Kathy, of Athens, GA., Michael Imig and his wife Marianne, of Westminster, Colo., 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

His parents, his wife, one grandson, Douglas, and his sister Mary Jasa, died earlier.
