Dean F. Johnson, 76, of Iowa City, died suddenly Friday, October 1, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Dean was born December 4, 1933 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Frank and Hilda (Huus) Johnson. Growing up in Lake View, Iowa, Dean served as a Sergeant in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. In 1960 he received his B.A. degree from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. He worked in Sioux City, Iowa at Securities Acceptance Corporation where he met Karen Tincher. They were married July 30, 1961 in Renwick, Iowa and established their residence in Iowa City.

Dean was the customer service manager for the Iowa City Press Citizen for 33 years, retiring in 1996. Dean was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir and attending Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.

Survivors include his wife Karen;
daughter Julie Dorn (Larry) of Trophy Club, Texas, son Jeffrey Johnson (Amy) of San Diego, California and Tricia Petrow (Bill) of West Dundee, Illinois;
twin brother Dale Johnson (Ann) of Northwood, Iowa;
grandchildren Megan Dorn, Kelly Dorn, Ava Johnson, Jenna Johnson, William III “Will” Petrow and Thomas Petrow;
nieces, Pieper Brunsvold (Dave) of Ashland, Wisconsin and Tanna Moretz (Dean) of Northwood, Iowa and his beloved dog, Gracie.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
