Maxine L. Radcliffe age 87 of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and formerly of Iowa City died on Sunday April 20, 2003 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. A graveside service will at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003 at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials may be given to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum at 3675 Arboretum Blvd, Chaska, MN. 55318. On line condolences may be sent to her family at www.gayandciha.com.
Maxine Letitia Madden was born on September 3, 1915 in Worthing S.D. the daughter of Fredrick and Bethsaida Hammer Madden. Maxine graduated from Yankton College in Yankton, S.D. in 1937 with a B.A. in Education. She taught high school English at Hayti, S.D. for two years. On August 13, 1939 she married Christian E. Radcliffe in Sioux City, Iowa. Together they lived in Iowa City where her husband was vice chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Iowa prior to his death in 1976.
Maxine enjoyed playing the piano and loved the fine arts. She enjoyed fishing with her husband. Maxine also loved children. Maxine was active in her daughters’ activities, which included being a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Maxine was a founding member of the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Sorority in Iowa City, Iowa.
Her family includes two daughters, Marni Radcliffe of Edina, MN and Karen Piplani of Chapel Hill, N.C. a brother, Orval Madden of Santa Maria, CA. two grandchildren, Mira Piplani of Arlington, VA and Dr. Michael Piplani and his wife, Susanne of Delmar, NY., three great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, and Tracy along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Maxine’s parents, husband and daughter, Christine, preceded her in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and cremation service are caring for Maxine’s services and her family
