Bert J. Miller, 89, of Coralville, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Bert died of complications following a stroke.
Bert was born June 12, 1921 in Iowa City, the son of Elbert and Emma Spreng Miller. He married Donna Mae Scheetz on July 28, 1946.
Bert was a graduate of Iowa City High School and an avid Little Hawk, Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. His first adult job was in the parts department at the Ford dealership in Iowa City where he met his future wife. He also managed two automobile service stations and was owner of Miller Brothers Monument Co. His most recent employment was operating the children’s carousel at Coral Ridge Mall. Bert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the loving staff of the Iowa City Hospice who helped them care for Bert during his final days.
During his life Bert enjoyed fishing, traveling, mushrooming, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
Bert is survived by his wife, Donna Miller, his daughter, Nancy Joy Duffner of Glenview, IL, his sons Bert Jay ( Laura ) Miller of Mt. Pleasant and Randy Merton ( Lora ) Miller of Iowa City, his sister Bernice Boyce of West Des Moines and 5 grandchildren, Amber, Megan, Tyler, Anna and Aspen.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Eldon, and four sisters, Edna Guiles, Edith Stoner, Elynore Spacek and Elberta Deutremont.
