Margaret A. Havighurst, age 68, of 2212 Arizona Avenue, Iowa City died Easter, Sunday, April 20, 2003 at her home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Cathy Luck of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Margaret’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Margaret’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Margaret Ann Christian Havighurst was born December 21, 1934 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Samuel N. and Ruea Haynes Christian. She graduated from Clinton High School. On June 26, 1955, she married L. David Havighurst in Clinton. The couple moved to Iowa City shortly after their marriage, where she was employed by Moore Business Forms for nearly twenty years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

Her family includes her husband, David; daughters, Jane Mace and her husband, Larry of St. Joseph, MO, Rebecca Herdlicka of Grand Island, NE, and Sarah Shannon and her husband Matthew of McDonough, GA; sons, Thomas Havighurst of Madison, WI, Matthew Havighurst and his wife, Lisa of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Courtney Davis, Jason Mace, Erin Eggenburg, Tara Herdlicka, Brent Herdlicka, Benjamin Herdlicka, Bryce Jacobs-Shannon, Elizabeth Shannon, Samuel Shannon and Meghan Shannon;
One great-granddaughter, Jalissa Herdlicka; and a brother, John C. Christian of Cleveland, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Leslie Herdlicka and two brothers, James Christian and Samuel Christian Jr.

Margaret so loved her family, they treasured her cooking, baking, sharing her recipes and knitting for them and others. They love her so much and will miss her.
