Jeffrey William Doyle, 45, of Redondo Beach, California died Sunday, June 20, 2010 in Redondo Beach of colon cancer. Jeff was surrounded by his sisters and friends.

Jeff was born April 17, 1965, in Spencer, Iowa to William Edward and Joanne Marie (Goddard). He graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1983 where he wrestled and was active in Younglife Christian ministries. Jeff continued his involvement with Younglife in college at Iowa State University as a counselor and spent many summers at Castaway in Minnesota. At Iowa State, Jeff enjoyed Greek life and was a member of the wrestling team. He graduated with a bachelor’s in English 1987. Pursuing opportunities in construction and sales in Iowa City, Iowa and Kansas City, Missouri led him to co-found America Builders, specializing in remodeling and new home construction. Following his parents’ final illnesses, Jeff moved to California in 2003 and worked in medical technology sales; most recently, Jeff was employed by Integra Life Sciences. Jeff greatly appreciated his ability to participate in patients’ healing processes through his on-the- spot work in surgical products.

Jeff was an enthusiastic fan of the University of Iowa football and wrestling teams and rarely missed an opportunity to catch a Hawk game, whether live at Kinnick Stadium, on the road or at an I-Club viewing party across the country. He immensely enjoyed attending the 2009 Outback Bowl in Tampa to cheer on his offensive lineman nephew’s team to victory.

Jeff is survived by his beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Paul Postler (Iowa City) and Barb and Terry Manternach (Cedar Rapids). Uncle “J” unabashedly adored his nephews Austin, Will, Harrison and Ethan Postler and Sam Manternach and his niece, Mackenzie Manternach. He is, also, survived by his girlfriend Lisa Hennessy and her son Matt and many close friends. Jeff was deeply grateful for all of the visitors who provided support to him and his family and to those who prayed for him during his illness. Jeff felt the power of those prayers and expressed his gratitude for the love he felt. Jeff felt blessed to have known the friendship and guidance of many coaches, teachers, mentors, teammates and friends throughout his lifetime.

If a man is measured by the company he keeps, Jeff’s life ended with a positive net worth. He was considered a best friend by many, and treasured the times he spent with his friends. Jeff will be missed for his mischievous wit and generous spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Jeffrey Doyle Memorial Fund.
