Gary Glenn Meineke, 56, of Jackson, NJ passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010. The cause of death was injuries suffered from a work related accident.
A memorial Service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 11 am June 12 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 304 1st St, Mount Vernon, IA, where the family will receive friends after 10 am. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Gary G. Meineke to the American Cancer Society, 1-800-227-2345. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City.
Gary was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on June 12, 1953, the son of Glenn and Delorus E. (Gerber) Meineke. and resided in Marion, IA before moving to New Jersey. He graduated from Central City High School in 1971. He married Sue Anne Cotton in 1970, and they divorced in 2002. His last employer in Iowa was Cedar Rapids, Inc. where he worked as a welder. He was currently employed by Chicago Bridge and Iron, Inc., New Castle, DE. He was a welder and pusher for a crew that builds water towers. He was a member of Boilermakers Local 28.
He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and collecting scaled models of construction toys and tractors. He also enjoyed hunting and target shooting and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Sally Anne Strah (husband, Steve) of Coralville, IA; his sisters, Glenda Kurth (husband, Kenneth) of Anamosa, IA, and Arlene Dudley (husband, Neil) of Central City, IA; several nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Sharon Beardsley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
