Ronald R. Schneider,75, of Iowa City passed away peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City, surrounded by his family. Per Ronald’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
Ronald was born in Iowa City on April 18, 1935, the son of Ben and Dorothy (Alwine) Schneider. He was raised in Coralville and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953. From 1956 to 1958, Ronald served in the United States Army as part of the Nike Missile Program. On January 17, 1959, Ronald was united in marriage to Jackie Lewis at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. For many years, Ron worked in construction as a finish carpenter for McCreedy Construction Company and later went on to become part owner of Perrin Incorporated, which specialized in underground cable construction. Most recently, he worked for the University of Iowa Hydraulic Research Department, building working dams for fish studies until his retirement in 2000.
Ron was a great cook and baker and loved to cook and bake for friends and family. He was well known for his rye bread, cinnamon rolls and candy. He also loved animals and nature, enjoyed golfing and fishing with his friends and family. Ron was always very helpful and supportive of his children and truly loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Jackie of Iowa City and their children: son Kip, and his son Evan, both of San Francisco, CA, and daughter Jill (Michael) Retrum , and their children Estella and Oliver, all of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters-in-law Pam Devins of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Helen Schneider of Iowa City; a brother-in-law Pete (Cathy) Devins of Iowa City; a niece Amy (Jeff) Nordeen of Denver, CO; several cousins, and all of his many friends he made throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Renee and a brother Edwin.
