Arthur F. Vetter, age 84 formerly of 201 North First Avenue, Iowa City died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at a hospital in Albuquerque, NM following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Karl Devine-Koch officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Online condolences may be sent for Arthur’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Arthur F. Vetter was born July 26, 1918 in DeWitt, Iowa the son of Henry and Laura (Fuller) Vetter. After graduation from high school he went on to receive his B.S. Degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, and later his Master’s in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force continuing his military service until retirement in 1962. On December 31, 1941, Arthur married Juanita M. Gillham in Pasadena, CA. In 1961, he began a long career with the University of Iowa as a professor teaching Chemical Engineering. During both his military career and professional career at the university, he was the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. To many of his students he was their strong mentor and a friend, many of who have maintained relationships since their leaving the university. Arthur retired in 1987. His wife, Juanita died May 30, 1995.

He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, and a number of professional organizations.

His family includes two sons, John F. and his wife, Beth Vetter of Providence, RI, and David and his wife, Cheryl Vetter of Bethalto, IL; two daughters, Nancy C. Perea of Albuquerque, NM, and Barbara and her husband, Robert Miller of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Jeanne L. Vetter, Courtney R. Miller, Alexis A. Miller and Carlos A. and his wife, Christine Perea.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Juanita; and three brothers.
