Dorothy M. (Fuhrmeister) Brannon, 87 lifelong resident of Iowa City died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to Hospice of Mercy c/o Mercy Foundation or Iowa City Hospice. Dorothy Margaret Reece was born August 27, 1922, in Iowa City the daughter of Lyle and Tina (Hayes) Reece. As a lifelong resident of Iowa City she attended schools here. She married Raymond H. Fuhrmeister on November 21, 1941, in Iowa City. Ray later died on June 1, 1971. She married Lenard Brannon on July 9, 1977, here in Iowa City. For a number of years she was employed at the University of Iowa Hospitals at Hospital School. Dorothy enjoyed the simple things in life, crocheting, doing crafts, playing bingo at Hardees, eating Chinese food, trips to the casino and playing euchre with family and friends. She was a past member of the Women of the Moose #509 in Iowa City.
Her family includes five daughters, Barb Brolik (Bill) of Cedar Rapids; Paulette Williams of Jefferson City, MO; Shirley Hamond (MikeBiles) of Louisville, KY; Connie Hanson (Russell) of Iowa City; and Bonnie McCune (David) of Iowa City; 13 grandchildren, Anna Foy, Alicia Porter, David Porter, Cathy Porter, Donnie Westcott, Christina Wolf, Danelle LaFarge, Paul Thompson, Teresa Thompson, Mike Hanson, Daniel Hanson, Mindy McCune, and Matthew McCune; 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Grandma and Grandpa Hayes; husband, Raymond; sister, Hope Britt and brother, Frank Reece.
