Marian M. Smith, 91, of 701 Oak Knoll Dr. died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Oak Knoll Retirement Center after a brief illness.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the Regina Foundation.

Marian was born February 14, 1912, the daughter of Hugh M. and Margaret (Holland) Smith. She was a life long resident of Iowa City. She graduated from St. Patrick school and Earned her B.A. and M.A. in Classical Languages from the University of Iowa in 1937. Marian was a secretary for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in the Neurology Department. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the altar and rosary society, University of Iowa Alumni Association, Eta Sigma Phi Honorary Classical Language Assn. and the University of Iowa Retirees Association.

Survivors by one niece, Kathleen Trudeau of Aurora, Illinois, one nephew, Michael J. Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, and one cousin, Pat Holland Brandt of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Hubert and William Smith.
