Evelyn Madison, 98, of Iowa City died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Oaknoll Health Care Center following a brief illness.
Funeral Services and burial will be held in Clifton, New Jersey, with a memorial gathering to be held at Oaknoll at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Oaknoll or Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences and memories may be sent to www.lensingfuneral.com
Evelyn was born in Passaic, NJ, the daughter of Morris and Anna Klayman Lutsky. On September 8, 1931 Evelyn married Jack Madison in Passaic.
Jack and Evelyn owned Brennon’s Tea Room in Passaic from 1945 to 1969. In 1991 Evelyn was the recipient of President George H W Bush’s “Thousand Points of Light Award” for her community volunteerism. Evelyn was the past president of YW-YMHA (Young Women and Young Men Hebrew Assn) and the Beth Israel Hospital Auxiliary in Passaic. She was a passionate bridge player, earning the status of ‘life master”.
Evelyn moved to Iowa City in 2004 to be near her family.
The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Rick Dobyns and staff at Oaknoll and Iowa City Hospice for their loving care and support.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Linda (Sam) Levey of Iowa City and their children, Eric (Michelle) Levey of Ellicott, MD and children, Amanda, Jake and step children Alex and Chris, Andrea Levey of Rockford, IL and Sara (Scott) Weisenberg of Chicago and their son Sidney and expectant child; daughter-in-law, Rita (Norman)Madison of Mystic, CT and their children Allen Madison of Spain and Janice (Herve) Lamb of Stonington, CT and their children Nathan and Hannah; three siblings, Herman (Janet) Lutsky, Rosie Lieberman and Kalman (Audrey) Lutsky. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Norman and nine siblings Ben, Harry, Mae. Lee, Martha, Irving. Morton, Este and Abraham.
