Mary Clare Cutforth,91, died at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa on March 1, 2010.
At her request the funeral and burial services will be private. Mary Clare’s remains and those of her husband, James , who died in 1989, will be buried together at Resthaven Cemetery in Des Moines, and just as their grave marker says, they will be together “forever”.
Mary Clare lived in Des Moines until the fall of 2005 when she moved to Coralville Iowa to be with her daughter Nancy Anderson.
Mary Clare was born on March 15, 1918, in Des Moines to Frank and Stella (Allen) Mills. Mary Clare lived in Des Moines until the fall of 2005 when she moved to Coralville Iowa to be with her daughter Nancy Anderson. Mary Clare was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Drake University where she received her BSE Degree. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, the Des Moines Junior League, St Augustine’s Alter and Rosary Society, the Bishop Drumm Guild, and Salisbury House Foundation. She was also active in many other civic and social organizations. Acting as an interpreter In the Flynn Mansion at Living History Farms was one of her favorite volunteer activities. In her mid 40’s she was asked to take over a class at Smouse Opportunity School and she taught there for the next twenty years. She loved her relationship with the children and all of the staff at Smouse.
Survivors include a son Michael of Takoma Park, Maryland; a daughter Nancy Anderson and her husband Gary of Coralville, Iowa; a grandson Christopher Anderson of Chicago, Illinois; two nephews David and Gregory Mills, and two nieces Marcia Wills and Clare Hamilton, all of Fort Worth, Texas.
The Church and her faith completed the happiness she experienced in life and made her feel comfortable in facing eternity with the Lord. Memorials may be made to St Augustine’s Catholic Church in Des Moines or to the Easter Seal Society.
