David L. Hamer, 63, of Iowa City died Monday, December 21, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics of complications related to a stroke.

Dave was born December 19, 1946 in Iowa City, the son of Leo and Helen (Cooper) Hamer. On January 28, 1995 he married Pamela Poggenpohl Bogs.
Dave was an auto mechanic and had worked in the past at Hamer Alignment, Doc’s Standard, Precision Auto and recently retired from Dusty’s Precision Auto. After retirement he did a little yard work with his brother Mike. Dave served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge. Dave enjoyed NASCAR and dirt track racing. He liked to follow the Chicago Bears and Iowa football. He enjoyed going to the casino. He also liked a cold PBR and a stiff whiskey now and then. Most of all he enjoyed his road trips with his brother Mike.
Dave is survived by his wife, Pam; three daughters, Genny (Tony) Gunn of Blue Springs, Missouri, Rhonda Hamer and Heather Yeggy, both of Iowa City; step-son, Scott (Kim) Bogs of Waverly; his brother, Mike (June) Hamer of West Branch; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special puppy Tank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lawrence and his loyal dog Ernie.
