Jim A. Klein, 75, of Iowa City died at home Monday, November 30, 2009 following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Rev. Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the Jim Klein Memorial fund has been established.
Jim was born December 15, 1933 in the Hills area, the son of Leroy and Irene Kral Klein. He was raised near Hills, where his family farmed, and attended City High School. On June 13, 1959 Jim married Betty Hecathorn in Iowa City.
Jim owned and operated the Amelon Texaco at the corner of Market and Dubuque Streets until 1990. The corner location was a landmark for many because of the tall corn that was grown annually. Jim was later employed by Barron’s Auto Supply and travelled daily to neighboring communities to deliver auto parts.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to all those who expressed concern about Jim’s health and well-being.
Jim was a member of the mixed bowling league at Colonial Lanes. He was a Hawkeye fan and enjoyed mushrooming and playing cards. Jim loved to travel to Las Vegas, but only when he won! His family was the most important part of his life, especially the time spent with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by four loving children, Roxann Droll, Carla Droll and Charles Klein (Tom Swank), all of San Diego and Jody (Mike) Thomas of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Chad (Alissa), Keely and Lindsay Stacey, all of Iowa City; three siblings, Hank Klein of Hills, Betty Hanson and Richard Klein, both of Iowa City, former son-in-law, Randy Stacey of North Liberty; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty.
